Venture 2010
Venture 2010 is an initiative of the ETH Zurich, the innovation promotion agency CTI
and McKinsey & Company, Switzerland. The Swiss-wide business plan
competition supports young entrepreneurs in founding a company. Venture
2010 – like Venture
1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2008 – aims to put to use untapped innovation
potential by encouraging young entrepreneurs to develop a business
idea. A number of renowned companies
from Swiss industry and commerce sponsor the competition.
Experienced coaches
support competition participants in the development of their business
idea and the preparation of their business
plans and in the search for suitable partners and the necessary capital.
Participants also receive feedback from the team of highly qualified
jurors. The jurors (approximately 80 people) belong to one of two
groups: entrepreneurs, who evaluate the formal and business aspects
of an idea, and investors, who evaluate its financial attractiveness.
Venture 2010 offers total prize
money of over CHF 150,000 for the winning business ideas and business plans.
Participants receive additional support in the form of various events,
e.g., a series of "Founder Knowledge" seminars as well as
special workshops. Comprehensive
information material is also on offer, such as the business plan
handbook "The New Venture Adventure – Succeed with Professional
Business Planning."
Venture is addressed to budding entrepreneurs in Switzerland who have
innovative business ideas. Participants may enter
the competition as individuals or as a team.
The Venture business plan competition is independent of venturelab start-up training, founded in 2004, which is a national program of the innovation promotion agency CTI, providing custom training modules to advise students and provide individualized promotion to high-tech start-up projects. The Venture business plan competition is also independent of venture kick, founded in 2007, which is an initiative of private investors who regularly support business ideas with financial awards. Both events can be visited in parallel to Venture 2010.
The requirements:
business idea and business plan
In the first phase of the competition participants
develop and submit a business
idea in the form of an Executive Summary, which focuses on customer
benefit and on the market. The ten best proposals will be awarded
CHF 2,500 each.
In the second phase participants prepare and submit their business
plans. The authors of the best plans will be invited to present
them to the jury. In this phase, the total prize money is at least CHF 125,000;
the best presentation will be awarded CHF 60,000.
More than prizes to
win
In addition to the prize money (CHF 150,000 in
total) for the especially successful, Venture 2010 guarantees:
Know-how: Venture 2010 provides access to experienced coaches
who support you in the preparation of your business idea and your
business plan.
Connections: Venture 2010 offers you new and valuable contacts
to other young entrepreneurs, to venture capitalists and to management
personalities from business and research.
Recognition: the media will follow Venture 2010 closely. Winning
a prize will give your business idea and your future company valuable
publicity.
