Markus co-founded and led Prionics AG, one of Switzerland's most successful University biotech spin-off. In 2002, he was awarded the Swiss Economic Award from the Swiss Economic Forum.
Markus received his PhD in Molecular Biology in 1995 at the University of Zurich. His expertise from his studies and research projects also covers the Neurosciences, Biochemistry and Immunology.
In 1997, he co-founded the University spin-off company Prionics AG, which quickly became famous as the world-wide leader in diagnostic testing for mad cow's disease. As CEO and member of the board, Markus developed the company into the second largest global farm animal diagnostics company. In 2014, he realized an attractive exit for the Prionics shareholders by selling the company to Thermo Fisher Scientific, a global life science company. Until 2016, Markus served as Chief Scientific Officer at Thermo Fisher Scientific's Life Sciences Solutions / Animal Health.
Markus is currently involved in several start-up companies and is active both as coach and business angel in the start-up ecosystem. Markus also engages in start-up promoting organisations as expert, juror and start-up mentor, and he is involved in several philanthropic projects.
