Could you explain what your startup does in a few sentences?
Samplab is a software that allows music producers to create professionally sounding music quickly and intuitively. The core of our product is a unique audio editing algorithm based on Machine Learning that allows us to edit each individual note in any audio file. Using this, one can create new music by combining and editing already existing royalty free audio samples, even if they previously didn’t musically match at all.
In your opinion, will AI technology be a trend in the music sector?
Yes! There are many different machine learning applications from transforming sounds to finding the right samples to generating complete songs. However, we see it only as a tool for musicians and not at all as a replacement. There is no need for more generic music but there is so much potential to enable more people to express themselves through music without having to deal with technical hurdles.
What is something you wish you knew when you started putting together your business?
If you are not absolutely sure that people want to use what you build, you should not build it. We tried out a few different ideas on how to make music production easier and while they all looked great on paper, they did not satisfy a big enough need to be pursued further.
What is the most useful piece of advice you have received so far?
“Go and call your customers.” Loading a form on your page to gather customer feedback might be good for reporting bugs but the insight pales in comparison to a quick call to understand the customer's needs.
